Director of APAC News Partnerships, Facebook
Beta is for anyone who is experimenting or innovating in media: mavericks, rule-breakers, game changers. People who know that the best days of media is in front of us, not behind.
We’re bringing together media startups, entrepreneurs, big media game changers and the occasional oddball, at Splice Beta — two full days in the creative district of Chiang Mai.
We believe that collaboration is the new competitive edge. It’s those partnerships that give us the best chance of success in media. That’s how the smartest innovators work.
Celebrating media innovation
Our mission is to support and celebrate the work of bold, forward-looking innovators in fulfilling the promise of digital media — building, connecting, and informing communities across Asia.
Splice Beta will be the stage where we highlight, share, and learn from the innovative and truly transformative work that is happening in media. We believe you deserve a stage to share your ideas — and have them seen.

Thailand’s ancient mountainous northern city is known for its temples and elephants, but also for its cafes and creative culture. We thought it would be the perfect place to talk about building the future of media together.
We’re making this a district festival
Sessions will be held in various creative venues across Chiang Mai: the Old City, the funky Nimmanhaemin art district and the CMU STeP spaces. You’ll get a chance to see the town, not just the inside of a windowless conference room!
And it isn’t all work. We’ve got loads of fun stuff planned too — street food, a rooftop bar (or three), and a Chiang Mai edition of Splice on Tap. Did we mention the coffee?
Chiang Mai International Airport is well connected, with direct flights from Hong Kong, Shanghai, Sydney, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Bangkok.
Thailand has one of the most open visa policies anywhere in the region.
Aim to get there on the morning of May 1 (the program rolls out that afternoon), and out on May 4 if you’re in a hurry to get back.
Here’s a shortlist of hotels in the Nimmanhaemin district. We are arranging transportation from this area so please book at these hotels.
They are also walking distance from some venues and evening festivities. You’ll want an easy walk back after some drinks with us.
Chiang Mai University Science & Technology Park
We love CMU STeP. Their mission is to connect Chiang Mai University to industry sectors to boost research, and get fresh ideas to market. Just the kind of partner that understands the importance of prototyping and testing. Wait till you see that amazing rice grain-shaped auditorium. That’s where we’re running the sessions on Thursday.
Punspace Wiang Kaew
We came across this space in the Old City because we desperately needed a coffee. Not only did they have a coffee cart on the premises, they had converted an old yard into a garden. A new building was in the works, which we get to use for our Wednesday masterclasses and Friday sessions.
Punspace Tha Phae Gate
This venue is near a centuries-old city wall, Tha Phae Gate, built when Chiang Mai was founded, and next door to a makerspace where you can 3D-print anything you can imagine. It’s Beta through and through.
The Brick Startup Space Nimman
A satellite co-working space linked to CMU STeP in Nimman. Two benefits: walking distance to our hotels, and down the block from Crazy Noodle.
Your delegate pass includes all the good stuff. Full access to two days of festival programming, a networking reception on May 1, a closing session on May 3, and an invitation to all festival socials.
